Say No To Boss...Without Saying No

"Boss is always Right"-- this is common phrase over the time in every organization. But we all know that is not right. They are always wrong whenever they ask for any personal favor or when they don't think what to approach or demand from the subordinates against their expectations. It might happen that first time when he ask to do something you feel obliged thinking that it can earn you as a brownie until it become a habit. Saying no to anyone for anything always doesn't mean you are not capable or you don't know how to perform.

Pushing back a request from the boss may be intimidating it but is always better than setting yourself up to fail. State the point diplomatically to push back the request whatever depends upon the work asked to do. Sometimes it depends upon the situations to how to react and indicate the negative reply.

Challenge: New Project or Assignment
Situation: You are truly engaged with other important work
Instead of: I don't have time to take new challenge on head
Try: Could you please help to prioritize the work OR Shall I ask my coworkers to get into it for the help?

Well, "No, I don't have time" can be the actionable situation against your legit response. It may create your negative impression on your ability to capably managing and prioritizing the work which is already on your plate. Respond them as if you are asking for help to prioritize the challenge. Explain him the current assignment, efforts you are putting, duration to complete the current task and get to know if you should stop working on existing work and start with new challenge. This will help you both to demonstrate everything what is on your plate and to boss to decide what should be important and accordingly the decision can be taken.

Challenge: New Proposal
Situation: You disagree with the strategy to follow
Instead of: I don't think so it will work
Try: Can I suggest the other option?

Answering "How could we have such approach towards it or we cannot go forward with this strategy" will be the abrasive approach which can create disinterest in your brainstorming ideas. Instead you can suggest any option or other idea which feel convincing to boss and client as well. Explain him you worked earlier with the same strategy and it works. Definitely will create positive approach towards new challenge and you will be praised in knowing how the particular work can be done to make it successful.

Challenge: New Targets
Situation: You just don't want to
Instead of:  Ugh..No..
Try: Fine..Alright..Sure (usually)

This is a point where you feel difficult to tackle the situation whether to say yes or no and all depends on your interest and disinterest. Sometimes you did not like to work on which is offered to you, may be it is time consuming which judges your patience, may be  the lengthy where you need to put the continuous effort in the same work or may be in which you need to work for extra hours or days. In this, initially there is no option other than to accept the work has been asked to do. But gradually you can suggest " I think the other co-worker can perform it efficiently as he is with early experience into it or try to discard by saying " Recently I am tied up with some other important task and I think I can be able to put less time into it" or if the issue is with extra working hours or flexible working hours you may approach " Can I work in the other shift  or have flexible timings or ask for if you can work from home.
You cannot ignore the work without any reason only you can go with the options where you are more comfortable and will also not loose the impression.

Its all about how you put the reasons, situations or opinions which can serve your satisfaction and also will not hamper the work instead will create the different impression on your work quality. That way you keep focus where and how it should and won't get caught up in who will decide how the things can be done.
