I guess everyone is aware of this tricky questions. And every time you answer something bizarre!!! During job interviews, there are specific questions which employers tend to ask, it doesn't matter the position and organization.
Sometimes questions are followed in chronological order, firstly about yourself, qualification, experience, hobbies and finally strength and weakness. This seems to be the typical HR round of interview. Does this questions always mean to be useful? Actually not..Knowing more than mentioned in resume about yourself is just a step to explore yourself in your words. It conveys how much you are capable to perform the responsibilities required by the position and what are your negative aspects which can affect the position. Don't assume that this is just a casual question, sometimes recruiters mean it and they can consider these factors for the suitability for the position.
These questions help hiring manager to determine how your qualities can prove success in the task and can increase productivity at workplace. Taking into consideration these aspects we can plan according to the position and requirement what the convincing answers could be.
When answering the questions about your strengths and weaknesses, always recall the job description. When answering about strengths keep in mind the positive factors of the role and frame your answer accordingly. Same about answering for the weaknesses, do not say anything negative or against of the required qualities for the role.
Other thing should kept mind while answering these questions, don't say " As required for the role I posses this strength or I know you required these qualities and I have all that". On this surely the hiring manager understands this is not your inbuilt qualities but for the sake of employment you try to become as it required.
Don't answer in detail about our weaknesses, describing your negative points can disappoint hiring manager and it may overlap your strength. Most of the hiring managers are interested to know about negative facts of candidates so they get chance to cross question on the same.
Same should be taken care while answering for strengths, try to express your words politely which explains how your strength can be your strong quality to overcome with any problems while performing your duties. It should be a general positive statement about yourself only to know your problem solving, decision making skills. One should not feel it self praising.
For instance you might say, you are working to improve on particular weakness, you realized by your experience and explain how weakness might be considered strength. Although questions on strength and weakness are common still they can be judgemental. They are ask to know how much you know yourself and how much you are aware of utilizing your strengths and weaknesses in the form of qualities or skills.
