Make Yourself Marketable In Basic And Simple Ways
The term 'Marketable' usually people understand is nothing but 'Presentable' in common word. We as an HR representative closely understand how important is to be always ready to convey assistance on any kind of information being responsible head, of course this can be either at your workplace or by the interviewers point of view. We can say being presentable is an vital aspect for being marketable.
Being Marketable is an idea to put yourself as you are but it can be in various ways. Answer for why should we do this, is to update yourself by decorating your experience/ work profile by festoon of skills in polished way to make sense according to the specific industry. One can realize the real need of being marketable when he put step ahead in the market where everyone ask him something unusual, may be something which is never done earlier.
Understanding the need for being marketable considering the specific purpose for specific area of work can be more easier to get exact idea of each level where you deserve success and appreciation.
1) Make your-self marketable at the point of looking for job as a fresher.
2) Be marketable when you describe your experience.
Now how to make it possible is by following the steps taking into consideration the requirement of market in which you are eligible and interested into. Understand the key points to be highlighted which are most attractive and important to be mentioned while presenting yourself/ your work.
Here if we look in case of fresher, one need to work hard while presenting themself for the interview.
Now, not only about yourself but as a fresher even your marketing document should be up to date which is more crucial then you. Pre-work is very important when you show up as fresher because you have nothing to express about yourself except your personal stuff. So, what a fresher usually thinks to be a presentable? here, he focus more on dressing, posture, gesture and communication. This is equally important but not more than how your marketing document; your resume should be. One should understand that marketing is not a content but is a way how your talent box is designed and how you put in front. Certain points to be noted on this:
High Priority
(1) One should look on the priorities what and how you design your resume.
(2) Sequence is important to get key points to be notified.
(3) After heading, summary is must to let interviewer get noticed what you own as your specialties. It may give interviewer the reason to look your resume thoroughly.
(4) Education details can be immediately followed by summary. The least but professional way to specify about your academics is into Grades and not the percentage. Do not forget to mention the year of passing which clarifies your continuity of academics.
(5) Technical skills or certifications or projects are equally important as they are treated as additional tags which can play important role in selection and rejection process.
(6) Being fresher, let interviewer understand about your interests, strengths and weaknesses, (Strengths and Weaknesses shall not mention in the resume)
(7) Be confident when introduce yourself . Ensure you describe only about you and not about family unless it is asked to you.
(8) You should consider every question as if it is been asked to you what is required by position and what responsibilities are expected by the organization.
(9) While talking about your skills, be strong on the points which are required by the position to perform, not only what you possess.
(10) Most crucial : Be ready for the questions start by 'Why' than 'What'. They seems to be judgmental on how you describe the matter and express your thoughts.
Low Priority
(1) Dressing : Just think about showing off professional and light.
(2) Posture and Gesture could not be important that you may get conscious on how you sit, where should your arm and vision should be. Staying 'Confident' is more than enough to show ignoring much about posture and gesture.
(3) Avoid talking more about yourself and only about your positive aspects.
In case of experience candidates, the experience itself matters almost everything to be marketable. Experience is your asset and asset is always valuable and to be nurtured. Experience cannot be always determined by no. of years but should be determined how well you justify proving your experience. Still, if anyone has around 3-5 years of experience and interested to enter in new market for new scope, he has to start looking where he stands in the market, how much he has scope in his current role, how much he has to develop to start with new search and most important how you will do this. Of course marketing them self is mandatory but what should be the resulting ways? Lets discuss :
High Priority
(1) Resume should consist of summary without fail, which should include your no. of years of experience into current role with your position and about overall earlier experience.
(2) One should start with their current or latest experience and roles & responsibilities, where only key points of your work profile should have mentioned rather to explain your daily tasks.
(3) Describing about projects and technologies on which you have worked can help lot to identify your work platform.
(4) While describing your responsibilities verbally always use words "my role was to..." instead "I was doing...", it shows you have perfectly identified what organization expected from you and you performed as per requirement.
(5) One should not convey negative reply for the similar role even if he has not performed what is been asked for, because interviewer expects at least you should have knowledge to explain what is been asked. Although that is not much considerable but negative reply will affect so far.
(6) Always consider the requirement of the role, what skills required, what attitude required to work on role can help to answer the questions starts with 'How'. It answers your ability, capability, strength, weakness, decision making, self developing qualities.
(7) Answer for "Why looking for change?" should be diplomatic and should think twice before any reply. Mostly one can answer related to expand his/ her knowledge of technologies, opportunities on new platforms etc.
Low Priority
(1) Never describe more than what is asked even you have something more to explain about your work profile. It totally depends on the interviewer so this can be changed according to the situation on which one should not give much importance.
(2) Avoid describing into points each and every activity you performed .
(3) Adding references cannot attract as interviewee might think that interviewer will have a look and assume what people has opinion about you which is least important to the interviewer.

Connecting with professionals and experts can help you to reach till destiny by much easier and exact way if you develop contacts. Remember the way of marketing skills is the first impression where you can catch attention of interviewer by which he will never experiment the way to ask you the mind boggling questions. These are just simple ways to keep always yourself updated by smart and impressive ways.
