Never Trust A Manager Who Does These Things
There are many things of you depend on your manager right from your joining till your exit. And this is the most crucial period of your career where you have to perform and make your own position. But every time it doesn't happen as you are strongly under observation and dependable on your manager. Dependable make sense with your performance, pay raise, leaves, challenges, tasks which all are equally responsible in your career growth. Doesn't matter how well you perform or what all things are impossible for you, raising up your strengths or weaknesses is decide by your manager or leader.
Your manager is a person who can give you pay raises or keep you stuck on the same. Your manager can terminate you or may recommend you for promotion. The manager hold power on you due to which your employment security and success career path makes your manager the most important person at workplace until you hold the same position in the organization. This unequal power between the manager and subordinate is the most dysfunctional feature in traditional employment.
It's not good for your success that for a single purpose you always need the manager's approval. It's not about the discipline and the process followed by the organization for certain approvals, but also this is the concern of your trust on your manager. This could be seen in your daily process, how much you take pressure to keep your difficult boss happy may not even aware of how much you bend yourself to accommodate your manager. We unconsciously shift our behaviors to match what we want and what the boss expects. In this process we give up everything -- confidence, trust and control over our mind.
I hope you have a manager who trusts you and you trust him. Everyone is deserve to work for a manager who does not expect from you to behave extraordinarily at work. But many people are not that lucky. One of the biggest problem in the professional world is the increasing fear at workplaces. Sadly it is easy to find fear based workplaces than healthy and friendly one. If you can't trust your manager, you can't grow individually as even though you do not trust manager but most of your activities and tasks are depend on him. Here is the time where you need to think to switch the job. Trust should be trustworthy, if you do not believe on your manager's words and if manager is not trustworthy on his statements, this is the time to make realize him how the manager's words are trusted by the subordinates in sustaining the performance and growth and how he fails to complete the usual demands of subordinates which is largely affected the whole process at workplace.
But how one can identify or understand that manager is not trustworthy or he lies or is not faithful to help to grow your career and individual expectations. Below are some facts where you will understand your manager cannot be trusted.
(1) If your manager complains to you or discuss with you about your fellow employees or higher -up managers then he is not trustworthy. If anyone can gossip with you negatively about their higher-up managers or anything confidential which is not related with your profile then he might easily can gossip about you with someone else.
(2) If your manager keep an eye on your time in and time outs then he is not trustworthy. If he makes a big issue on your late comings and do not consider the extra hours you put to complete the tasks approached by him then there is less possibility that he will update the higher authority regarding your involvement and performance at workplace.
(3) If your manager itself is afraid of his higher managers then he cannot be trusted. This experience you may get when your manager does something wrong and is not capable to handle the situation at his higher manager, might he will blame you for the reason in the front of your higher and obviously you will not be able to deny or discard your manager's words.
(4) If your manager is not able to understand the priorities and ask you certainly to switch the work load then he is not trustworthy. If he does not understand the work priorities on what basis he will be able judge your performance and work contribution at the time of appreciation and appraisals which is very crucial for an employee to expect from his manager.
(5) If your boss everyday obsessed with the targets and metrics then he cannot be trusted. The boss who makes your head full of tasks achieving the daily targets and judge you according to the work completed by you in a day, then you should not hope in future for any appreciation he could consider for you if he is only into the cycle of daily targets.
(6) Do not trust the manager if he lies you for giving pay raise and then deny at the moment saying " I tried for your best but seniors didn't considered" even after you put more than 100% leaving everything back which was more valuable for you.
(7) You should not trust the manager if he always lies his seniors saying everything is going well and smoothly in the organization when in fact there are many issues which could be solved by the interference of the seniors.
If you don't trust your manager, don't panic, just think this is the time you should understand your manager, your growth and act smartly how to manage your performance and understand the mind games played against you, sometimes considering you or sometimes ignoring you. You will feel pleasure at work if you think only on your growth and individual performance and by keeping away the thought of impressing forcefully the manager under pressure.
